triumphed
I did not fall into the pit last night. I triumphed over my craving! I am not sure how and it was certainly no thanks to one of my co-workers who was enticing me to go have a burger with him once he heard of my weakness. Why is that? Whey do people like to help you stumble when you are trying to be good? No matter. I didn't go for the burger. I went home and had a banana and some cashew butter. But you want to know what really stinks? Tonight the craving was back even stronger. I all but pulled into the Hardee's, but at the last minute some vestige of my will power took over and I made it home once again without falling into the pit. I just think it stinks that we have to triumph over the same obstacles again and again. Shouldn't once be enough? But then it would just be too easy wouldn't it. So one day at a time we get up and fight the battles before us. Some days they are the same as we faced yesterday and some days there are brand new dragons to slay. And then other days, there are no dragons at all, just blue, clear skies. Ah....I like those days! Perhaps tomorrow will be a smooth-sailing, light as air, feather floating on the breeze, blue-clear-sky day. You think?

cravings
This is Day 10 of the Detox. (11 days to go) It's been going pretty well, with a couple of minor slips, but tonight I have a HUGE craving for a pepper-jack burger. The kind of craving that grabs hold of you like a pitbull and won't let go. And I'm sitting here wondering how I'm going to make it home without pulling into the drive-thru at some greasy burger joint. I've never been good at dealing with cravings. I guess that's why I've never been skinny. I wonder how others deal with cravings. Any great ideas out there? I'm soooo open to suggestions! Maybe I should call PITA. Do you think they have a hotline to help those that are trying not to eat our furry friends? I bet they do. Think I'll go drink a glass of water. I've heard that's supposed to help. I'll let you know tomorrow if I'm successful in avoiding the gaping chasm that is my craving, or if I dive in head first.

Day One of Detox
Well, today was day one of the Equinox detox. I ate really well. I had an apple and white tea for breakfast, veggie soup for lunch plus grapes, salad for dinner and some cashews, and lots and lots of water. I have a huge caffeine withdrawl headache, so I am headed to a hot bath with Epsom Salt hoping to draw out the toxins and ease the discomfort.
Also today I did a big shopping for all the healthy stuff I want to make readily available. Cause we all know how quick and easy junk food and fast food are. If I want to reach my goal, I have to make eating healthy just as convenient. All in all, pretty happy with the start. Now just have to work to sustain it. Wish me luck!

Day Three
Day Three: Yesterday was a good day. I got some things done that I needed to accomplish. And spent some time planning for the upcoming week. I made raw treats so that I can get my eating on track. (raw almond carob chip cookies and raw fudge brownies) I got containers to organize all my nuts and weird health food stuff, which will please my kids no doubt. You wouldn't think nuts would be a problem, but apparently I have some squirrel tendencies and have taken up a whole shelf in the pantry with my assorted nuts. In my defense, they are a staple in the raw food diet! Heading to Trader Joe's later to get the rest of what I need for the week. This is definitely one of the things I wanted to make time for by cutting out the TV, so I am pleased with my progress for today. Gold star for me!

16 Hours Left
There are 16 short hours left until I pull the plug. I am spending the morning, watching a little TV (of course) decompressing from a fairly stressful week. I will need to find some new ways to decompress in the coming weeks and months. Let's see...bubble baths are always a winner. I think Qi Gong and Yoga will be my next line of defense. These are both things I've neglected over the last year that I think will make a big difference for me.
On a different note, preparing for the new year is of course about adjusting ourselves for the future, but also about reflecting on the year we've just completed. 2009 has been a good year for me. At the beginning of the year I made a vision board- a tool to focus my intentions and goals.
On it was a picture of wonderful healthy foods-I wanted to improve my eating habits. This year I did the Raw Food plan for 2 months. 2 months eating mainly fruits, veggies and nuts. Yay for me! This year, I've decided to do about 2/3's raw. I think it's a balanced and doable. And with my tv-free hours I will have time to try those new raw recipes I've wanted to learn.
Also, I had listed travel. This year I got to travel home to California to see my family. And I went to Monterey and San Francisco. I got some great shots in the city and at the beach. Then later that summer, I went to the gulf coast to camp at the beach. That was an incredible trip. Probably one of the best vacations I've ever had! And then in the fall, I took the kids and grand babies to Disney World. What fun!
There were lots of other things on the vision board. Some I made progress on and some I didn't. But overall when I look back on the year, I feel a sense of overwhelming gratitude for the life I live and the friends and family with which I am blessed. And I have such a sense of hope and excitement for 2010. Now to work on my vision board for this year. Hmmmm....i hope I can find a big enough board!
